 Innovations in Cardiac Surgery

There are revolutionary changes in heart surgery performance that wre like dreams only 2 decades ago.

There are newly developed anastomotic devices for Coronary artery bypass grafting surgery, which are already clinically available in the market. These devices will facilitate partial and total endoscopic CABG techniques.

Percutaneous techniques are now available for Aortic Valve Replacement and Pulmonary valve Replacement. Single percutaneous mitral valve repair is coming soon.

Tissue engineering has begun a decade ago and will offer biocompatible heart valves that will reduce the need for anticoagulants and will contribute to a better life quality after valve replacement surgery.

New techniques and treatment modalities are being developed for the management of  for heart failure.

The major drawback for the achievements of this amazing progress is the financial cost. An open debate between all the parties concerned in healthcare is urgently needed in order to maintain the quality of surgical care for the decades to come.
